Chapter 6 questions
1. How does Bilbo react to the loss of the company? How does the compant react tot he loss of Bilbo? What conclusions can you draw?
Bilbo reacts going a little crazy. The company reacts by being sort of mad at Gandalf because he didn't choose someone with more wits. The conclusion that i can come up with is that they will end up finding eachother and getting in an arguement.
2.Compare and contrast Bilbo's story of what happened to him with what the narrator said happened to him. How do you account for the differences? what would you have done if you were Bilbo?
Well when i compare and contrast between the narrator's story and Bilbo's story i get that they are very different Bilbo said that he was brave and ran from Gollum and he leaves out the part that he got the ring because he doesnt want them to know that he has the magical ring so they dont take it fro him even. If i were Bilbo i would have told the entire story to the company because it would make it much easier so i wouldn't have a quilty conscience from hiding the fact that i had the ring if i said i didn't.
3.How has Bilbo changed since the first chapter?
The way that Bilbo has changed is that he is more barave now and he seems to like the company a lot more now that he actually knows them. He has also changed by knowing how to steal so he can live up to his label of being the great thief.
4.Riddle competitions have been used sinceprimitive times to decide the fate of someone or something. How is this tradition reflective in the compant's reaction to Bilbo's story?
It is refected by how they see what riddles Bilbo has used to stump Gollum. Their reaction wasa surprise to me beacuse they seemed to believe Bilbo even though he had lied.
5. What functions does the setting serve in this chapter?
The functions in this chapter serve sort of a hiding place for Bilbo and the company.
6.One of the techniques Tolkien Uses to Suppoert the conciet that the narrator is relating true story is to make connections between the origins of the real-world language and the imaginary world of the story.
