Chapter 6 Questions:
1. How does Bilbo react to the loss of the company? How does the company react to the loss of Bilbo? What conclusions can you draw?
Bilbo feels lonley and scared that he lost his company but he knows he won't gain anything by complaining. His company doesn't really want to go find him, but Gandalf did.
2.Compare and Contrast Bilbo's story of what happened to him with what the narratpr said happened to him. How do you accout fot the differences? What would you have done if you were Bilbo?
Bilbo was not sure what had happened to him exept for that he was alone in the dark and gobblins were close but not to close, and his head was hurting. The narrator said that he fell off the dwarves shoulders and hit his head on a rock therefore Knocking him out and he fell into a dark corner.
3. How has Bilbo changed since chapter 1?
He has become braver then he was before, and since Gandalf came too his door asking him to complete the adventure. And he has become more durable.
4. Riddle competitions have been used since primitive times to decide the fate of someone or something. How is this tradition reflected in the companys reaction to Bilbo's story?
Since Bilbo is from "up top" He knows more of the common riddlesThat are used in the riddle competition.
5. What functions does the setting serve in this Chapter?
The rough terrain and the darkness, it sets a very dark and gloomy setting for this chapter
6. One of the techniques Tolkien uses to support the conceit that the narrator is relatomg true history is to make connections between the origins of real-world language and the imaginaryworld of the story. In Chapter 1, (page 17), he has the narrator explain the origins of the game of golf. How does he use this technique in Chapter 6?
He brings he real history of people settleing in the US. TO his story when the woodsmen and their families settle where the wolves are.
