A: Thorin and company are very fair and respectable and Bilbo is brave and lives up to his standards.




2. What motivates Bilbo to steal the cup?

A: He wanted to show the company that he was closer to being a burgaler so he picked something that was as heavy as he could carry.


3. What techniques does Tolkin use to characterize Smaug?

A: Tolkin makes Smaug very big and scary and makes him able to talk.


4. Explain how Bilbo tries to trick Smaug and Smaug tries to influence Bilbo. Is either successful? Explain. Include in clarification Bilbos ridde talk.

A: Bilbo starts saying nice things about Smaug like ''Smaug the tremendous'' and Smaug influences Bilbo by calling him a theif and a liar when he is burgalling him.



5. What mistakes does Bilbo make in dealing with Smaug, in your opinion?

A: Bilbo tries to suck up to Smaug to much and is really bad at lying and tells Smaug alot about himself which is dumb.


6. What effect does the hoard of gold have on the various characters?

A: The hoard of the gold makes the characters all happy and excited.
