Chapter 14 and 15

Chapter 14
1. What different interpretations did the townspeople make of the lights visiable on the mountains?
They thought it must be the dwarves and their Hobblit companion hiding in the mountains.
2.Characterize Bard and the Master. What techniques does Tolkien use to encourage you to contrast the two men?
Well Bard is a strong dwarf who has a big army, and is fearless, as for the Master he all he wants is us to be a peaceful event and he wants 1/4 of the gold.
3. How is the setting of the town important in this chapter?
Well good old Bilbo, as he was giving hints to the dragon as to who he was, he said barrel rider as was a big mistake beacause Smaug knew the men of the lake worked with barrels, which made Smaug in a terrible mood adn made him wasn to get revenge on the Lake men.
4. Was there any irony for you in this chapter? Any predictions fulfilled? Explain.
Well i dont think there were many ironic parts in this chapter, except, maybe when Smaug tried to destroy the whole town.
5. What motives guided the wood-elves journey east?
They came because they heard Smaug was dead and that the river men needed help, they also came to get a share of they gold.
6.What do you predict will happen in the next chapter? What indecations do you have that this is possible?
I predict there will be a battle because tensions are rising.

1. What role(s) have talking animals played i the plot of this story so far?
The Ravons have been spying for the dwarves even though they are not on their side and have no interest in the matter.
2. Bilbo thought "that the adventure was, properly speaking, over with the death of the dragon" and the narrator says he is wrong. What enemies might the compant have? What do you think might happen?
I think that the elves, rivermen, wolves, and goblins.
3. what did the company do while they waited for the armies to approach?
I think they would stop hiding and start fighting.
4. What did Thorin react to the elves and man? How did the rest the company feel? How do you know?
Thorin was upset because they thought they deserved a fourth of the treasure and most of the company agreed.
5.Compare and contrast the dwarves songs on pages 261-262 with their song on pages 13-15.
They sound very alike, they also have the same tune.
6. Bard and Thorib each present their view of the situation. How do you judge the sitution?
I think Bard is being more reasonable because of the dwarves, their whole town got burned down.
7. What causes Thorin's hardness od heart?
He wants the arkenstone so bad and he is overwhelmed by the treasure.
